Celebrating 50 years of Independence. 114 years ago, 3 Nations fought over the control of Samoa: Germany, United States & Great Britain. In the late 1800s, Lauaki Namulauulu Mamoe started the “Mau Movement” in opposition to foreign domination. He was exiled never to see his beloved homeland again. In the 1920s, Tupua Tamasese Lealofi III continued the fight. In 1929, he was killed in the process. After much blood, sweat and tears, Samoa finally won her right to be free. In 1962, Samoa was declared Independent.
